Wood Shear Wall Seismic and Wind Design Example per 2015 WFCM and SDPWS

Michelle Kam-Biron is a California licensed structural engineer and Senior Director of Education for the American Wood Council (AWC) where she is expanding continuing education resources for architects, engineers, and building officials as well as coordinating the development of university level wood design course. Before joining AWC, she worked for nearly five years in the wood industry as the Senior Technical Director – National Lead Mid-rise/Multi-family Construction for the Wood Products Council initiative WoodWorks. Ms. Kam-Biron has contributed to several published articles and white papers related to the use of structural wood. She also has over 20 years of experience managing and designing a wide range of projects of various structural materials as well as Division of State Architect contract plan review. Ms. Kam-Biron graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a BS in Architectural Engineering (ARCE) and has served on the ARCE Industry Advisory Council. She is a certified Earthquake Disaster Assessment volunteer and a member of the International Code Council. She also serves on the NCSEA Basic Wood Education Committee, is a Past-President of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California and the Chair ASCE-SEI Wood Education Committee.
Lori has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Penn State, and an MS in Civil Engineering from Clemson University. Upon graduating from Clemson, Lori was employed as a forensic structural engineer with SK&A in suburban Washington, DC. She then enrolled at Virginia Tech where she earned a Master of Forestry degree in the Department of Wood Science and Forest Products. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Lori joined the American Wood Council in Leesburg, VA where she now works as the Manager of Educational Outreach. Her work at the AWC ranges from assisting in codes and standards development, answering helpdesk inquiries, outreach and educational opportunities, and anything else that can help promote the use of wood in safe and sustainable buildings. She is a licensed P.E. in Virginia.
