March 17, 2026; 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific Time
AlaaEldin Abouelleil, Ph.D., P.E

This webinar covers basic load paths and load combinations used in allowable stress design and strength design. Also discussed are risk categories assigned to buildings for load determination based on hazard to life. This webinar is based on the 2024 International Building Code® (IBC®) and the IBC-referenced 2022 ASCE/SEI 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures (ASCE 7-22). The discussion of load path and load combinations is geared to new engineers, architects, and code officials. The discussion of risk categories should be of interest to all audiences.

Speaker Bio

Dr. AlaaEldin Abouelleil received a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in structural engineering from Kansas State University as well as a certificate of applied mathematics. His research was a collaboration with Kansas department of transportation to confine bridge piers with fiber reinforced polymers for additional capacity. His doctoral degree was to create a novel theory for shear stress computation in cracked reinforced concrete flexural beams. After graduation in 2018, he worked as an adjunct professor as well as a senior engineering software developer. Abouelleil joined S. K. Ghosh Associates LLC in 2022, he has been involved in the development of computer programs, technical documentation, and publications. He is also involved in finite element analysis (FEA) for various structural engineering projects.
