David A. Fanella Ph.D., S.E., P.E.
Part 1 in this webinar series presents methods on how to determine the required thickness of a diaphragm based on serviceability and strength (in-plane and out-of-plane) requirements. Also presented are step-by-step procedures on how to determine in-plane diaphragm forces due to wind, general structural integrity, seismic, soil, transfer, anchorage, and connection forces based on the requirements of ASCE/SEI 7-22. Methods on how to determine collector design forces for buildings assigned to SDC C through F are also provided.
Speaker Bio
David A. Fanella Ph.D., S.E., P.E., is the Senior Director of Engineering at the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute. He has over 30 years of experience in the design of a wide variety of buildings and other structures. He is a member of several ACI Committees and serves on ASCE Committee 7, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. In 2014, he was the recipient of the Alfred E. Lindau Award from the American Concrete Institute for outstanding contributions to reinforced concrete design practice. David is a past board member and president of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
