The webinar covers the design of post-tensioned diaphragms highlighting the benefits of precompression to reduce or eliminate additional drag and chord reinforcement. A discussion of how concrete diaphragms should be modeled is presented and how a traditional steel or wood diaphragm approach does not apply to a concrete membrane. Construction photographs and details will be shown to clarify the design intent.
Part 1:
  • Diaphragm Forces
  • Diaphragm Analysis – Different Approaches
  • Moment and Shear Diagrams
  • Diaphragm Design – Two Methods Used – Wood versus Concrete
  • “Wood” Design Example
Part 2:
  • Diaphragm Design – Concrete Method Example
  • Comparison between Different Methods
  • Use of Precompression in Diaphragm Design
  • Collectors and use of Omega Factor
  • Detailing
  • Chord Design
