This seminar covers the major changes from the 2008 to the 2011 MSJC Code. Some of the changes that are discussed include the removal of the 1/3 stress increase in allowable stress design and the resulting recalibration of allowable stresses, changes in the shear provisions in allowable stress design to be similar to strength design provisions, and updates as a result of changes in ASCE 7-10. New provisions in the code are discussed including deep beam provisions, transverse reinforcement provisions for lap splices, and an Appendix on masonry infills. The impact of the changes on masonry design is also presented.
