Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Resisting Connections with Example The seismic design requirements for intermediate and special moment frame systems in Chapter F of AISC 341-10 include extensive requirements for the critical beam-to-column connection. The design of these connections is required to be based on a qualified testing program. However, AISC has prequalified a set of moment connections in Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic Applications (AISC 358-10) that can be used without testing.
